A report from the

VVCMCC Annual Gluhwein Run

Casuarina Sands, Cotter
Sunday 8 September 2019

by Allan Boyd

The Gluhwein Run is one of the major events on the VVCMCC yearly calendar; also members of other like-minded motorbike clubs are invited to participate.

Despite the cold and windy weather although at least sunny, many keen motorcyclists turned up for the traditional get-together at Casuarina Sands.

Some of the keenest volunteers were already set up and cooking the BBQ breakfast before 8am. The wonderful smell of cooking sausages, bacon, eggs and onions greeted the early riders with hot water urns ready for hot drinks to warm cold fingers and bodies. Yummy bread was available to make delicious hot food sandwiches.

At 10am the riders were briefed then headed off for the ride to Corin Dam to check out if any snow remained on the hills. Dave Phillis and his son Izaq were back up and followed the riders there and back. Many riders chose to remain behind to chat, watch the magpies chase the cheeky raven away, and continue to enjoy the delicious food.
On return the cold riders were ready for more hot food and drinks. Although traditionally made by Ray Scott, who has escaped to warmer climes, VVCMCC's famous Gluhwein was available this year prepared by John S "the Master Maker". This was sampled by many participants and pronounced "wunderbar" - so John you now have a life-time position! As always, a spread of delicious home-made cakes and slices were laid out (donated by several VVCMCC lady members).

An interesting range of motorcycles were parked in the Sands carpark for all to admire; from a veteran through the ages to moderns and even a newly completed 'electric' postie bike that was quite an attraction. David, the owner, gave me the opportunity to ride a lap of the carpark; thank you David.

Thank You to all the VVCMCC organisers and the many volunteers - the Gluhwein Run would not happen without you. Once again a successful Gluhwein Run event.
