'Broken Barrel' Run
8-10 October 2011

Report by Dick Holland

(total distance approx 550 kilometres)

The weekend of the 8/0/2011 a group of VVCMCC members gathered at Red Rooster in QBN for a 3 day 2 night ride to the coast staying at the Barlings Beach Van Park.

Departure was set for 10am and with everyone on time we set off, a few others, Phill Sell, Stumpy, Steve Davey (with his Bonnie in the van) joined us at Bungendore. We had to stop at Braidwood so the fuel guzzelling Indians/Nortons could refuel and off again to meet Eddy and Bill at the Steampacket at Nelligen.

Unfortunately Wayne's Indian arrived on the backup trailer with a broken front barrel. So after inspection by all the experts it was decided that Wayne would drive Steve's van and Steve would ride the Bonnie the rest of the way. After a photo shoot at Eddy's place at Mogo it was off to the Van Park.

We arrived at the Van park at about 2pm and after settling in Eddy came with the Esky full of the necessary refreshments and 5 kilo's of Crystal Bay prawns! After the prawns and a beer Trevor Fowler and Steve Davey went for a short ride to South head Moruya, and on their return Eddy had the BBQ going and cooked up a great feed then after a few more refresments we called it a day.

Sunday morning we set off to Broulee surf club to meet up with the Eurobodalla club who were having their annual Registration/ show'n'shine day. About an hour later we set off for Narooma for lunch and to check how things were going at Bathurst (car races), and from there we headed for Tilba Tilba where we met up with Ron (Blue) Bailey, an ex member who now lives there. Then on our return we ran into the only rain for the whole trip, at Moruya, and after a fuel stop we headed back to the van park.

Mick Gentleman had stopped at the oyster farm and bought 6 dozen oysters which Rob and Wayne helped shuck and Rob made a Kilpatrick for those who couldn't eat them natural. We then watched the final few laps of Bathurst and settled in to another of Eddy's great BBQ's.

Monday morning after clean up Eddy arrived with a strange looking Trophy which was awarded to Wayne for the unfortunate blowup of his Indian (Broken Barrel). Then we headed for home with a stop at Bungendore for Steve Keough to do a group photo. We did about 550klm's all on V plated Bikes.

Thanks to all who attended for making this a great weekend and especially to Eddy for his Catering skills and Trevor for towing the backup trailer for the Broken Barrel Ride.
