VVCMCC Vintage Trail Ride

report by Simon Whittaker

Well another trail ride for those members who enjoy their old bikes and aren't afraid to get them a little wet and muddy! While the rest of you were sleeping in, we had about 18 riders and some pretty old trailies turn up this year. Steve Davey brought his Bultaco, Jim was once again mounted on his Jawa, some new faces and a few who'd enjoyed themselves last year.

It was raining this morning but it soon stopped about 10 am, leaving the roads a bit damp which was good for keeping the dust down, but I thought it would be a lot muddier on the trails. The route was the same as last years except we went in reverse which meant we did the harder Doctors Flat rd part first.

Christine even managed the whole ride on her little postie bike which we know cannot be killed. This year the water crossing was pretty easy, and unfortunately last years superstar, Ray Lalic had to turn around early as he had problems with his TT250.

Everyone made it through no worries and continued through to the end enjoying the scenery and the wildlife in the country. We all regrouped for a stretch, a chocolate and a pat of the dead rabbit, before continuing on to Sawyers creek road. This was a bit more dustier and the water was a bit deeper at the crossing on this stretch. Lots of nice scenery and hills then back onto the tar and down Fairlight rd to Geoff Duddy and the BBQ trailer back at Urriarra crossing carpark. Tasty hot dogs and hamburgers for all.

Col Hill, Mick G and a few other members came along for a look, and Mick G reckons he'll have a trail bike in time for the next one! (He's just bought a Yamaha DT175) Everybody who came had a great day, including newcomers David Walter who dug his old XL350 out for its first ride in about 10 years and Lorraine Lister, who said she learnt more about riding on dirt on this ride than ever before. I think she'll also have a trail bike in her stable soon enough.

Thanks to John Astridge and his friend Gerard who did back up in his 4wd ute (no passengers this time) and took a few photos, Geoff Duddy for another awesome job on the BBQ, and you guys for turning up and making it a great ride.

Cheers from... "The White Flash"
