Blackwood Vinduro

by Phill Glasson
Mark and Phill travelled to the #VERi Blackwood Vinduro where they met up with Neale Martin.
We were looking forward to Blackwood as it provides great riding with a few good hill climbs and it is the location for next years Australian 3Day Vintage Enduro #A3VE. Neale was riding well and was first back to base after the first 50km lap and so he went out and did it again. Phill crashed on a nasty down hill and gashed his hand and had to seek medical attention and did not continue after that. Mark was slower than both Neale and Phill and crashed a lot. As Phill was out and he had hurt his hand and wrist, Mark was satisfied with only one lap. Both Phill and Mark are recovering ok. Thanks to #VERi and Rachelle and #Penrite.

A Cure For Freyja

MotoGP auction

Floyd Primmer's youngest son Patrick Primmer (a VVCMCC club member) and his wife Justine, organised another auction of Motor GP memorabilia and merchandise from MotoGP riders and teams, to assist in finding a cure for young Canberra girl Freyja Christiansen. The Auction ended on Thursday 8th November 2018:

In January 2016, Freyja was diagnosed with a rare adult cancer called, Clear Cell Sarcoma. She has it in her neck and abdomen. Initially 37 doctors refused to operate, fearing catastrophic damage to critical structures in her neck. Then a robotic surgical team in Melbourne agreed to tackle her tumours and this worked to some degree. She's been through rounds and rounds of immunotherapy and 28 sessions of pencil beam radiotherapy.

Freyja is defying the odds, however she's endured 18 months of painful, invasive procedures and treatments in her battle against it. Yet still she smiles. Still she puts up with the relentless tubes, injections, operations, scans and medicines. Still she puts up with the hideous side effects like Mucositis which inflames her digestive tract and makes swallowing painful and impossible so that she must be fed by tube. Still she puts up with frequent cross-country travel to the medical teams that are her only hope.

Health services cover some things, but there are many things they don't. Cancer is expensive! Her Mum Liz is on her own and can't work while caring for Freyja full time.

For Freyja's full story visit https://www.acureforfreyja.com/

Many thanks for your support.

Lane filtering in the ACT - October 2018

Motorcycle lane filtering is when a motorcycle is riding between two marked lanes with the same direction of travel as the motorcycle when there are stationary or slow moving vehicles next to the motorcycle in both marked lanes.

Motorcycle lane filtering in the ACT

Lane filtering is:
- only allowed when safe to do so;
- not allowed at a speed greater than 30km/h;
- only allowed by fully licensed motorcyclists (ie. learner and provisional licensed motorcyclists are not allowed to lane filter);
- not allowed on the kerbside next to a footpath or in bicycle lanes or breakdown lanes;
- not allowed in ANY 40km/h zones (such as school zones, roadworks and city centres); and
- not allowed past heavy vehicles and buses.

Motorcycle lane filtering is not the same as lane splitting.
Lane splitting involves higher speeds (above 30km/h), which increases the unpredictability of motorcyclist movements for other road users. Lane splitting is not permitted in the ACT.

Jawa 500cc OHC twin

Jim's Shed

Four Stroke Jawa

Date: 17 September 2018
From Jim Steed

I recently got enthusiastic about a 1950s 500cc OHC Jawa Twin (that's right a 4 stroke Jawa road bike!). But the bidding got far too rich for me.
However it got me searching and I came up with an article about such a bike.
Perhaps others might be interested in reading about such a relatively rare machine. In which case they could download it from my web page at:

In just five years the event has raised over $300,000 for Down Syndrome NSW.
Riders begin their journey at home or wherever they like but arrive at the same destination.

If you’re not a rider, you can support the Scrapheap Adventure Ride and Down Syndrome NSW by sponsoring a rider or just donating to the cause.

Gary Rankin:
This is an
Isle of Man camera video
done really well.
It lasts about five minutes.
Keep in mind that this is the last true motorcycle road race in the world.
Each lap is 37.75 miles long with over 200 turns.
And the record for a single lap is over 130 MPH.
There are straight sections where the bikes hit over 200 MPH.
It Is hard to imagine such riding speeds but they do it every year at the end of May and have been doing so since 1907.
There have been over 240 rider fatalities in the history of the event but it is bigger than ever today.
Two riders were killed during the 2012 events.
The helmet cam video over the last minute or so of the clip is breathtaking..
This event makes car racers look like a bunch of wussies.
Even Sir Jackie Stewart is amazed by what he is seeing in the video.
BTW, former Formula One World Champion John Surtees won this event before he switched from motorcycles to race cars.
