scrapheap2015

The Scrapheap Adventure Ride is a unique fundraising event involving motorcycle enthusiasts from all over the country purchasing a bike for no more than $1000 and doing it up for an adventure ride through the Aussie outback, all while raising money for kids with Down Syndrome.
In just five years the event has raised over $300,000 for Down Syndrome NSW.
Riders begin their journey at home or wherever they like but arrive at the same destination.

If you’re not a rider, you can support the Scrapheap Adventure Ride and Down Syndrome NSW by sponsoring a rider or just donating to the cause.

Pete Garfield here ...I was a member back in the late '80s. Pole might remember me. I've been living in Echuca for 17 years now and still working on the Paddle Steamers - my other two wheeled toys! Finally back into old bikes. Bought a B31 as I always liked Pete Dunster's little blue one. Looks like the club is still doing well. I still have family in Canberra so I visit occasionally.
Cheers

Treblig Motorcycles - request
Date: 8 August 2013
To: webmaster@vvcmcc.org

Dear Sir/Madam
I trust this finds you well. My family used to manufacture the
Treblig Motorcycle in Strathalbyn, SA in the early 1900's, however we do not know if one even exists anymore.
I am seeking any help you might offer in trying to track one down.
If you could kindly pass this on to your members I would be most grateful.
Kind Regards

Sent in by
Gary Rankin:
This is an
Isle of Man camera video
done really well.
It lasts about five minutes.
Keep in mind that this is the last true motorcycle road race in the world.
Each lap is 37.75 miles long with over 200 turns.
And the record for a single lap is over 130 MPH.
There are straight sections where the bikes hit over 200 MPH.
It Is hard to imagine such riding speeds but they do it every year at the end of May and have been doing so since 1907.
There have been over 240 rider fatalities in the history of the event but it is bigger than ever today.
Two riders were killed during the 2012 events.
The helmet cam video over the last minute or so of the clip is breathtaking..
This event makes car racers look like a bunch of wussies.
Even Sir Jackie Stewart is amazed by what he is seeing in the video.
BTW, former Formula One World Champion John Surtees won this event before he switched from motorcycles to race cars.

Here's the video, Tally Ho lads:

'Bits Stuck Anywhere:
The Decline of BSA and the Birmingham Motorcycle Industry'

Description:
"How did the Midlands once mighty motorcycle industry decline into industrial turmoil and eventual collapse? Using archive film from the MACE collection we will travel from the post-war boom years of mass produced motorcycles to the 1970s when motorcycle giant BSA faced closure and the eventual ignominy of a public auction of its assets.
Perhaps the school boys were right and BSA did stand for Bits Stuck Anywhere….
This sales decline is contrasted with glorious footage of the riders in action: the Midlands’ own leather jacked clad ‘ton-up boys’ taking to the streets of Birmingham and Leicester when the only motorcycles that mattered were made in Britain."
